The Reach Higher Initiative Brings Two Students From Rural Idaho to Washington, DC.

In the last week of July, Jimmy Soderberg and Angus Meredith, two students from the Idaho PTECH Network, and InsideTrack Coach Hayley Kimble were invited to the White House for the 2015 Beating the Odds Summit. This event was hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama as part of the “Reach Higher” initiative.

Of the 130 students to attend this event, Jimmy and Angus were nominated to attend by PTECH and InsideTrack as recognition of their tireless work in pursuing education.

This event featured remarks by E! News host Terrence Jenkins, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, musical artist Wale and a brief surprise appearance by President Obama.

Students at the Beat the Odds Summit participated in workshops, discussion panels and networked with one another. This sampling of students from across the nation impressed upon Jimmy and Angus the idea that the work they’re doing isn’t just about getting a job or degree, it’s about impacting the world.

“The kids didn’t really know what hit them,” said Hayley Kimble of her experience escorting Soderberg and Meredith to the capital. “The summit was about what we at InsideTrack do every day. The whole point was to bring together students pursuing their education and allow them to be in an environment surrounded by people, including their peers, who want them to succeed.”

Thank you to the Reach Higher Initiative and organizers of the Beating the Odds Summit for including InsideTrack and PTECH in this opportunity.
