IDEA Public Schools partners with student success coaching experts InsideTrack to help rising juniors and seniors prepare for the transition to college
SAN ANTONIO, TX (February 15, 2018) — IDEA Public Schools, a growing network of tuition-free Pre-K-12 public schools preparing students for success in college and life, today announced a new initiative to better support students in successfully transitioning to college. Through a partnership with student coaching pioneer InsideTrack, IDEA Public Schools will develop a coaching program to foster college going attitudes and competencies in its students.
Over the next three years, InsideTrack will work with IDEA Public Schools administrators and staff to develop a highly scalable, sustainable student coaching program based on InsideTrack’s proven and research-backed methodologies. Through the program, coaches will work one-on-one with IDEA students to help them make informed college enrollment decisions, develop long-term success plans and build the skills required for college and career success.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for skilled school and career counselors is expect to grow rapidly over the next decade. With support from InsideTrack, IDEA is deploying a coaching program that will incorporate the latest behavioral science, technology and staff development techniques, enabling IDEA to provide its more than 36,000 students in 61 schools across Texas with the best possible support as they prepare for college and beyond.
“Advancing students’ college and career opportunities is at the heart of what we do at IDEA,” said Phillip Garza, chief college and diversity officer at IDEA Public Schools. “We’ve had a 100% college acceptance rate for 11 years running. We also want to ensure that our graduates thrive in college and in their careers. That is why we’re working with InsideTrack, who brings nearly two decades of experience helping students develop the skills, attitudes and habits that will enable them to overcome challenges, take full advantage of the college experience and graduate ready for meaningful careers.”
IDEA Public Schools was founded in the Rio Grande Valley in 2001. Since then, IDEA has opened schools in Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, and Southern Louisiana. Based on the demand from parents for more high-performing public schools that prepare their children for college, IDEA is growing within Texas and beyond. IDEA is the fastest-growing, highest-achieving charter school network in the country. By 2022, IDEA will operate 173 schools in ten regions educating 100,000 students on their road to and through college.
InsideTrack is a member of the nonprofit Strada Education Network. Since 2001, InsideTrack has coached over 1.5 million students across a broad range of educational institutions and systems, including rural high schools, community college systems, and traditional four-year universities. In addition, its Capacity Building programs and uCoach® Platform enable institutions and system to implement and sustain their own coaching programs, to improve outcomes and generate insights into the student experience through predictive analytics and multichannel communication.
“We know that today, education beyond high school is essential for upward mobility and career success, and that all begins with a strong academic foundation,” said Mike Embry, associate vice president of program development at InsideTrack. “But it also requires students to develop noncognitive skills, such as time management, critical thinking and communication that will drive their long-term success. IDEA has been a national pioneer in integrating college and career readiness into its programs and we’re excited to support them in their efforts to take their student support to the next level.”
Program design is already underway and coaching is expected to begin during the 2018-19 academic year. The initiative is being funded through an Education Innovation and Research (EIR) grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
