Passaic County Community College Announces New Initiative to Improve Outcomes for Students in STEM Fields

College to provide developmental coaching to STEM students with support from InsideTrack, the national experts in student success

Paterson, NJ. (MARCH 6, 2018) — Passaic County Community College (PCCC) announced today the launch of a new initiative to improve outcomes for students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by providing them with professional success coaching. Over the next two years, PCCC administrators and staff will collaborate with student success experts from InsideTrack to enhance PCCC’s student support capabilities, so that they can better support STEM students.

Drawing on InsideTrack’s proven coaching methodologies, training and consulting, PCCC will provide personalized support to STEM students to help them successfully graduate well prepared for promising STEM careers. An assessment of the college’s current capabilities and needs is already underway. This will be followed by customized training, quality assessments and ongoing professional development for PCCC advisers, coaches, faculty and tutors. Training will focus on supporting students in developing the noncognitive skills, attitudes and habits needed for success in school and after graduation, with emphasis in areas including strategic planning, time management and motivation.

“Helping members of our diverse community achieve their academic and career goals has always been an important part of our college’s mission,” said Dr. Steven A. Rose, president of Passaic County Community College. “Our partnership with InsideTrack enhances our ability to unleash the potential in our STEM students by ensuring that they not only graduate, but also develop the skills and knowledge employers value most.”

A two year public community college operating on four campuses, PCCC focuses on serving residents of Passaic County and offers over 70 degree and career programs in many fields of study. One of the most diverse colleges in the state, PCCC enrolls over 12,000 students in both traditional and online programs.

With their STEM coaching program, PCCC joins a nationwide effort by the education, business and philanthropic communities to link students from more diverse backgrounds with opportunities in STEM fields. High-skill STEM jobs are among the highest paying and fastest growing careers in today’s workforce and PCCC’s coaching program will increase access to this economic opportunity.

Since 2001, InsideTrack has provided high-quality coaching to more than 1.5 million prospects, students and alumni across more than 1,600 academic programs nationwide, with a strong track record of improving outcomes and performance. InsideTrack’s professional services and uCoach® Platform enable institutions to implement and sustain their own coaching programs; to improve outcomes; and to generate insights into the student experience through predictive modeling, behavioral analysis, and multichannel communication.

“As our economy becomes increasingly technology-driven, community colleges play a critical role in bringing valuable STEM career opportunities to an increasingly diverse range of students,” said Carrie Lockhert, associate vice president for program development at InsideTrack. “PCCC has a well-earned reputation for innovative approaches to improving equity and connecting students with well-paying jobs. InsideTrack is proud to be partnering with them to advance the success of STEM students.”
