Leader in American Indian Education Launches Success Coaching Initiative for Incoming Freshman

Muskogee, OK. (July 28, 2016) –  Bacone College, a private liberal arts college with an education mission rooted in service to American Indian students, today announced, plans to launch a one-to-one coaching program designed to improve student success and inform institutional strategy with new insights on the student experience. To support the initiative, Bacone College has selected InsideTrack, the leading student success organization, to implement and operate the coaching program, which aims to serve over 600 incoming students.

As the oldest continuing center of higher education in Oklahoma, Bacone College offers students a multicultural curriculum designed to develop the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st-century workforce.

“Bacone’s commitment is to our students and their success. Ultimately, it is our one and sole objective. We want students to come to Bacone, but, more importantly, we want those who come to stay, and we want them to graduate,” said Franklin K. Willis, President of Bacone College. “In joining hands with Inside Track, we believe we take an important step forward to meet our goals.”

“Our college has a long history of taking a holistic approach to student growth and success,” said Kindle Holderby, Director of Student Life and Enrollment Management at Bacone College. “By leveraging InsideTrack’s proven expertise, pedagogy and technology, we will continue to personalize the college experience for our students, meeting them where they are – and giving them the guidance, support and tools necessary to be successful in college and beyond.”

In addition to providing personalized support for students, starting in the Fall 2016, the coaching program will also generate data-driven insights to inform administrators, faculty, and staff on factors affecting student engagement and success.

“Research shows that individual student engagement, especially within the first year of college, is one of the most critical factors in driving completion and long-term success,” said Mike Embry, Associate Vice President of Program Development at InsideTrack. “It’s clear that Bacone College is committed to providing personalized educational experiences that prepare students for meaningful lives and we are excited to partner with them in that pursuit.”

InsideTrack, who currently works with more than 1300 higher education programs nationwide including those at other American Indian-serving institutions such as Carl Albert State College, will collaborate closely with Bacone College over the next three years to optimize the coaching program and operationalize the insights it generates. Bacone students will enjoy professional mentoring and support from InsideTrack coaches through one-to-one meetings, email, and text messaging, as well as access to self-guided content through InsideTrack’s uCoach® web and mobile apps.
