InsideTrack Hired by University of Georgia to Expand Student Coaching Initiative

Expansion will enable UGA to provide proactive success coaching to more than 26,000 undergraduates

PORTLAND, OR. (August 28, 2019) — Leading student success organization InsideTrack announced today that it has been contracted by the University of Georgia (UGA) — Georgia’s flagship public research university recognized by US News & World Report as one of the top 15 public universities — to expand the university’s academic coaching program.

This expansion will enable UGA to provide professional coaching to all undergraduate students.

In addition to nearly doubling the size of its academic support coaching team, UGA will work with InsideTrack over the next year to assess current strengths and needs, train and certify coaches, conduct manager development and put in place an ongoing development and quality assurance program. The initiative is part of the university’s shift to a holistic coaching model focused on addressing the broad range of challenges that impede student success, including time and stress management, connecting to school community, and financial wellness.

“We know that the factors that influence persistence and completion extend well beyond academics and finances. Sense of belonging, stress, work responsibilities, and a host of other issues are often the backdrop when students are struggling,” said Thomas Chase Hagood, Director of the Division of Academic Enhancement at the University of Georgia. “This work is about expanding our focus to the whole student and helping them navigate the challenges and rigors of higher education. InsideTrack will enable UGA to bring academic coaching to scale.”

Drawing on InsideTrack’s proven coaching methodologies, tools and training, UGA will expand its capacity to provide personalized support to all students. Following an assessment of the university’s current capabilities, InsideTrack will provide customized training, quality assessments and ongoing professional development for UGA staff and managers. Training will focus on supporting students in developing the noncognitive skills, attitudes and habits needed for success in school and after graduation, with emphasis on leveraging behavioral science, data analysis and multichannel communication to maximize impact and cost-effectiveness.

Countless studies have shown that proactive, holistic student success coaching leads to better student outcomes. One landmark meta-analysis of randomized experiments by Stanford University professor Eric Bettinger published by the American Educational Research Association found a 10- to 15-percent increase in persistence and completion rates among students who received coaching.

Over nearly two decades, InsideTrack has developed a national reputation for its rigorous student success coaching model, which is proven to enhance student enrollment, persistence, completion, and career readiness. In addition to directly coaching hundreds of thousands of students annually, InsideTrack’s seasoned team of professional coaches, trainers, and consultants also supports institutions in implementing changes to improve the long-term effectiveness and sustainability of their own student support services.

“UGA’s comprehensive approach to student support is reflective of the university’s commitment to helping students navigate the crucial, but sometimes overlooked, challenges that can stand in the way of success,” said Colleen Arrey, Associate Vice President of Partner Success at InsideTrack. “We’re excited to partner with UGA to improve time- and cost-to-completion and unlock the full potential of Georgia students.”
